Steve Fleckman has represented clients in diverse aspects of business law for more than 45 years. Clients range from entrepreneurs, start-ups, and regional businesses to international corporations.

Steve is a seasoned counselor and litigator. His practice areas include corporate transactions, private placements of securities and venture capital financing, commercial litigation, commercial and residential real estate, employment issues and executive compensation agreements, intellectual property issues focusing on patent licensing, copyright, and trademark, and estate planning. He was formerly a member of the Board of Directors of Applied Bioscience International, Inc., and the Board of Directors of IntelliQuest, Inc.

Steve practiced law in New York City for four years in the areas of commercial litigation, corporate law, and commercial real estate prior to moving back to Texas in 1979, to establish his practice in Austin. He formed Fleckman & McGlynn in the early 1990s prior to merging his firm with MWM. A founder of the Austin Jazz Band, he regularly plays trumpet with the group.

Jessica McGlynn is active in all aspects of the firm’s transactional practice, including entity selection, formation and conversion, employment matters, mergers and acquisitions, general corporate and commercial transactions, bank loans and private financings, real estate acquisitions and sales, and commercial leasing.

A native of the Netherlands, Jessica moved to Minnesota in 1988, where she obtained her second law degree. She shortly thereafter moved to Austin where she joined Fleckman & McGlynn and served as a principal of the firm. Jessica is fluent in Dutch, and also speaks conversational German. She competes in ballroom dancing as a hobby.

Bill is of counsel in MWM’s intellectual property practice. He advises companies on trademarks and copyrights and works with them on all aspects of their trademark and copyright portfolios. Bill’s represent clients in intellectual property matters with an emphasis on trademark and trade dress counseling, prosecution, and litigation. He also has substantial experience representing clients in IP litigation issues relating to trademarks, trade dress, dilution and unfair competition.

John Cain handles all aspects of intellectual property counseling and transactional practice and litigation, with an emphasis on trademark portfolio management and trademark and copyright clearance, procurement, licensing and enforcement. John represents clients of all sizes in numerous industries, including retail consumer products, semiconductors, telecommunications, insurance, oilfield tools, electronics and financial services.

As a long-time active committees’ member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) John works with an extensive, hand-picked network of trademark professionals around the world to manage international portfolios for several trademark clients.

Melissa LaBauve enjoys great relationships with her clients and is a trusted advocate working closely with them to help solve trademark prosecution issues, enforcement and other complex IP transactional matters. A wide variety of companies, both domestic and international, also rely on Melissa as their outside counsel, putting earned trust in her care and dedication to their business goals. With a trained eye on future trends and changes in the trademark landscape, Melissa is a focused voice for her clients and their trademark portfolios, managing and advising with keenly honed judgement on how best to manage, protect, and exploit their intellectual property across multiple jurisdictions. Melissa is pointful, communicative and adept at negotiating and drafting a host of agreements, including intellectual property licenses, co-branding agreements, social media and Internet-related agreements, as well as various types of service agreements and marketing contracts.

Melissa is a great supporter of the IP community and is an actively contributing member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), where she has served as Chair of the Trademark Roundtable Project Team and has been a valuable member of the Trademark Office Practices Committee, Internet Committee, Programs Committee, and Treaty Analysis Committee.

Andrew McKeon has experience litigating commercial disputes involving fiduciaries, contracts, real estate, and business torts. Andrew’s practice includes the representation of business partners, property owners, commercial landlords, and local businesses. He earned his J.D. cum laude from Notre Dame Law School where he was the recipient of the A. Harold Weber Moot Court Award.

Jason Paul Blair handles a wide variety of intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on trademark, trade dress, and copyright issues. Prior to joining Fleckman & McGlynn, Jason was an examining attorney for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for over a dozen years. His direct involvement in the prosecution and examination of over 15,000 trademark applications in the USPTO affords him an extraordinary depth of experience in the trademark registration process.

In 2008, Jason was named the USPTO’s Special Marks Examiner for Sound and Motion Marks, and was instrumental in implementing agency policy standards and procedures for trademarks incorporating sound or motion. In addition to examining all of the sound and motion mark applications, Jason drafted several provisions of the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (TMEP) dealing with those marks, was directly involved in the formulation of sound and motion mark policies, and worked with foreign government officials in efforts to harmonize sound and motion mark practices globally.

A professional singer and pianist from the age of six, Jason began his childhood career performing in Branson, Missouri, and eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he not only performed as a musical artist, but also worked in music production and promotion with several major label recording artists. Jason’s knowledge of music theory and audiology are useful in sound mark and copyright matters, and his experience in artist promotion is invaluable in brand development and marketing strategy.

In addition to music, Jason loves spending time with his wife and young triplets, and also enjoys restoring classic cars.
