Cano will work as an associate in MWM’s Houston office, supporting the IP team in patent preparation and prosecution. Prior to joining MWM, Cano prepared and drafted over 70 patent applications related to interdisciplinary areas, including optical devices, mechanical devices, semiconductors, and medical devices.
Cano’s diverse background includes working as a patent examiner in the US Patent and Trademark Office, launching his own boutique law firm, and working as an assistant district attorney in El Paso. While in law school, Cano also earned key research experience working as an IP analyst in Texas Tech’s technology transfer office. He has considerable strengths in both mechanical and electrical engineering, and he has a proven track record of delivering exceptional legal services and achieving favorable outcomes for clients.

Cano graduated from Texas Tech School of Law with a concentration in intellectual property law. He was the business manager for Texas Tech Law Review and served as president of the Intellectual Property Student Association. In 2023, Cano completed a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, and he also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University. In addition to being a registered patent attorney, Cano is fluent in Spanish and plays six instruments, including trumpet, French horn, guitar, piano, bass guitar, and drums.
