Munck Wilson Mandala Welcomes Patent Litigation Partner David G. Henry and Establishes Waco, Texas Office

Dallas, TX, Jul. 5, 2022 —– Munck Wilson Mandala strengthens its patent litigation bench with new partner David G. Henry.  Henry brings more than 35 years of legal experience as an accomplished patent litigator and advisor in domestic and foreign intellectual property asset management.  He represents clients in a variety of technologies, including telecommunications, semiconductors, medical and dental devices, FoodTech, biotech, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and animal care products.  Henry was previously the IP Litigation section chair at Gray Reed, working primarily out of the Waco, TX office the firm opened in 2019.

“David is a perfect fit for our team with his diverse practice and commitment to his clients and community,” said William A. Munck, managing partner of MWM.  “His combined patent litigation and prosecution experience and his impressive involvement as a Baylor Law School professor and mentor make him an outstanding addition to our team.”

“David is well known in patent litigation circles, and a highly regarded speaker,” added MWM patent litigation chair Mike Wilson.  “We are looking forward to having him lead our efforts in MWM’s Waco office.”

Henry attended both undergraduate and law school at Baylor and took a detour from pursuing a career in medicine when circumstances afforded him the opportunity to combine his love of medical science with law.  In his legal practice, Henry represents clients in patent, trademark, and copyright infringement litigation and trade dress litigation in courts throughout the U.S.  He is also a highly reputable patent prosecutor and advises clients in IP audits, helping them manage and protect patent, trademark, copyright, trade dress, and other IP assets.

Even while handling cases and client matters throughout the United States, often from distant prior firm offices, Henry has spent most of his career living in Waco where he has taught patent law and litigation courses at Baylor Law School since 1994 and teaches IP principles to students and company representatives at the Entrepreneurship Program of Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business.  Using his knowledge of IP law and export control issues, he has been a valuable advisor to businesses in the program’s commercialization projects in China and Africa.

In the Baylor community, Henry and his wife Priscilla, a well-known local artist, have long been involved in a variety of Waco area philanthropic, civic, and social events and activities.  Henry serves as faculty advisor to several Baylor University student organizations and he and his wife provide a variety of community services to Baylor and its students.  They will tell you that teaching and mentoring Baylor students is a “labor of love” and an opportunity for them to give back to their Baylor family.

In the IP community, Henry is highly respected as a lawyer, adjunct professor, and subject matter expert. He serves as a director for the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s licensed IP clinic program at Baylor Law School and he is an accredited CLE presenter and frequent presenter for multiple bar associations and IP conferences throughout the country.

A registered patent attorney, Henry used his passion for aviation to develop an international practice by flying himself to his clients, adopting the mantra, “geography is never an issue.”  In fact, he will tell you that most of his clients, dispersed throughout North America, have never actually visited his office but his practice has flourished because of his ability to conduct face-to-face meetings in multiple cities as an aircraft owner living in a suburb of Waco.

In addition to his legal career, Henry serves on a judicial advisory panel for formulating patent case rules and procedures, and he is a Texas-certified mediator.  Henry is licensed to practice in all United States District Courts of Texas, the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Texas, the United States District Court, Colorado, the United States Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, the USPTO, and the Canadian Patent Office.

Henry received his law degree from Baylor University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University.  He is a registered patent attorney in the U.S. and Canada and a lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force’s Auxiliary, serving as a public affairs officer for his unit that flies humanitarian, search and rescue and disaster relief missions for the U.S. Air Force and a variety of federal and state emergency services agencies.
