Munck Wilson Mandala partner Mabel Simpson is honored as a Southern Trailblazer for 2021 by The American Lawyer magazine.  She is featured in a special Trailblazer publication released today by American Lawyer Media, highlighting her impressive legal career that spans three decades and includes owning and operating her own law firm.

Simpson is known as a lawyer who can handle complicated legal issues for her clients, many who are real estate developers or landowners.  She will tell you her success comes from having a PhD in common sense but there are many other factors that help her stand out as a leading lawyer in the South.

Simpson owned and operated her own firm within two years after graduating from law school.  Before she completed law school, she worked for several years as a “landman,” representing oil and gas developers and landowners, helping both to develop drilling prospects and negotiate oil and gas leases.

She uses her unique experiences to guide energy and real estate clients in a variety of real estate matters including land acquisition, land development (including agriculture), related water rights, and oil, gas, and mineral rights in Texas.  Simpson is also considered a leading authority in cannabis law and has closely followed legislation affecting hemp and cannabis production and distribution in Texas.

Simpson’s real estate work spans every legal matter from title examination, land acquisition, land use/zoning, drilling leases, water rights, and oil, gas, and mineral rights.  Her knowledge of Texas legislation and how it affects businesses and real estate is beyond extraordinary.  MWM clients rely on her to get their permits passed through city councils or county governments and she is an ideal resource for advising companies relocating to Texas.  Her embedded knowledge of how Texas government works helps clients navigate the hierarchy of Texas legislation as it relates to real estate projects, zoning, land use, and other issues.

Among her roles in the community, Simpson serves on the legislative committee – Texas Land Title Association, the Texas Bar Foundation, Texas Bar College, and she served on the Richardson City Council from 2015-2019.  She received her J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law and graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.
