Dallas, TX, Aug. 31, 2017— Law firm Munck Wilson Mandala secured a $10.1 million verdict today on behalf of client iLife Technologies. The firm represented iLife, a Dallas-based technology firm that develops vital sign monitors and other technology, in a patent infringement case involving motion detection technology for Nintendo Wii gaming systems. The case, iLife Technologies Inc. v. Nintendo of America Inc., was tried in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas before Chief Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn.

“This is a great outcome for iLife and for our firm. Munck Wilson Mandala worked with iLife on this patent; we have represented them for the past two decades. To see a patent we wrote and now defended receive such a great verdict is an honor,” said Munck Wilson Mandala’s managing partner William “Bill” Munck.

“Our team combined technical know-how with expert trial and litigation skills to win this case.  We could not be more pleased with the outcome,” said partner Mike Wilson who led the litigation team on this case.

“Since 2013, Munck Wilson Mandala has represented iLife in this litigation. Today’s verdict is the result of our commitment to excellence and an outstanding team effort. It really demonstrates our firm’s technical expertise and complex litigation skills,” said Munck Wilson Mandala partner Jamil Alibhai, head of the firm’s litigation practice.

The jury found in favor of iLife, which sued Nintendo of America Inc., a subsidiary of Nintendo Co. Ltd., for infringement of U.S. Patent Number 6,864,796 covering motion-sensing technology incorporated into the Nintendo Wii and Wii U consoles. Wilson told the jury in opening remarks that motion-controlled gaming in the Wii system was enabled by the ‘796 patent’s technology and led to Nintendo’s blockbuster success. The jury agreed that Nintendo infringed the ‘796 patent and rejected Nintendo’s defense.

iLife was represented by Wilson, Wallace Dunwoody, Jacob LaCombe, Shain Khoshbin, Dan Venglarik, Aaron Dilbeck, and Jordan Strauss.
