Munck Wilson Mandala welcomes litigation partner Anton (Tony) Handal to the firm’s Los Angeles office. Handal brings more than 40 years of litigation experience serving as first-chair in cases held in Federal and State courts throughout the U.S. Handal has tried more than 100 matters and served as lead counsel in more than 170 patent litigation cases. He joins MWM from Murchison and Cumming LLP in San Diego where he worked as a litigation partner and co-chair of the intellectual property practice group.

Handal is well known, at home and abroad, for his skills in complex litigation involving IP, business break-ups, trademark infringement, trade secret litigation, data breaches, and Lanham Act violations. He has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Patent Trial and Appeals Board, and various Federal Appeals Courts, District and State Courts. He represented clients in 17 IPRs, trying three to successful conclusion and he successfully tried cases before the International Trade Commission.
Handal regularly advises international clients in the United States as well as American clients on doing business overseas. His international reach extends from Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the entire Middle East to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, and the rest of the Pacific Rim.
Handal is highly skilled in matters involving trade secrets, cyber/computer issues, and misappropriation of trade secrets, making him an excellent addition to MWM’s IP group which is currently representing clients in these types of disputes.
A well rounded legal professional, Handal additionally advises clients in M&A transactions, handling due diligence, contract negotiations, and purchase and sale documents. He gives presentations on IP law related to the cannabis industry, the beauty industry, and other IP litigation related topics and he has been sourced in various articles and news stories covering high profile IP disputes in the film and cannabis industries.
Handal received his J.D. from the Southwestern University School of Law and his B.A. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has been selected by his peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America in complex litigation in 2023 and 2024.
