Law firm Munck Wilson Mandala, LLP amplified its legal power by seven with the addition of attorneys from Fleckman & McGlynn, PLLC an Austin-based law firm highly regarded by clients for legal representation in litigation, real estate, corporate transactions, and intellectual property.

The new attorneys joining MWM include founding principal Steven Fleckman and named partner Jessica McGlynn, partners John Cain, Melissa LaBauve, and Andrew McKeon, principal attorney Jason Blair, and of counsel Bill Raman.

Fleckman has more than 45 years of litigation, corporate, real estate, and IP experience.  He moved to Austin in 1979 after practicing law in New York City for four years.  He is the founding principal of Fleckman & McGlynn, a firm he started in 1991.  He represents clients in corporate and securities law, commercial litigation, employment law, executive compensation, real estate, estate planning, and IP law.  Fleckman earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and holds a Bachelor of Arts from University of Texas.  A founder of the Austin Jazz Band, he regularly plays trumpet and saxophone when he is not practicing law.

McGlynn is a native of the Netherlands and joined Fleckman in 1991.  She brings 30 years of transactional law experience to MWM, representing clients in entity formation, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, financing, private placements, real estate, and commercial leasing.  She is the 2021-2022 chair of the Austin Bar Business, Corporate and Tax law section.  McGlynn is fluent in Dutch and conversational in German.  She received her first law degree in the Netherlands and her second J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School, graduating cum laude.  When she is not practicing law, she is a competitive ballroom dancer.

Cain is a long-time committee member of the International Trademark Association and handles all aspects of intellectual property counseling, protection, and litigation.  He is well known for his detailed counseling in trademark portfolio management and trademark and copyright clearance, procurement, licensing, and enforcement.  Cain represents clients in industries ranging from consumer and industrial products to hospitality and financial services.  Over his 30-year career at both IP boutique and international firms, Cain has worked with an exclusive team of IP professionals around the world to manage international portfolios for his trademark clients.  Cain received his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center, and he also holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.  Cain is a registered patent attorney and inactive registered Professional Engineer.

LaBauve brings nearly 20 years of trademark and IP transactional law to MWM.  She represents a wide variety of companies, both domestic and international, serving as their outside counsel and helping clients manage, protect, and exploit their intellectual property assets.  LaBauve is also an active member of INTA where she served as chair of the Trademark Roundtable Project Team and has been a valuable member of the Trademark Office Practices Committee, Internet Committee, Programs Committee, and Treaty Analysis Committee.  LaBauve received her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law.

McKeon brings seven years of litigation experience to MWM, representing clients in fiduciary litigations and commercial disputes involving real estate, contracts, and business torts.  He represents clients ranging in size from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups and local businesses.  McKeon earned his J.D. cum laude from Notre Dame Law School where he was the recipient of the A. Harold Weber Moot Court Award.  He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in government from the University of Texas.

Blair represents clients in IP matters with an emphasis on trademark, trade dress, and copyright issues.  As a former examining attorney for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he was directly involved in the prosecution and examination of more than 15,000 trademark applications.  With a unique background as a professional singer and pianist, Blair worked in the music industry with several major label recording artists prior to his legal career.  His knowledge of the music business is useful in sound mark and copyright matters and his background in artist promotion is invaluable in brand development and marketing.  In 2008, Blair was named the USPTO’s Special Marks Examiner for sound and motion marks and was instrumental in implementing agency policy standards for trademarks incorporating sound or motion.  Blair received his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law, graduating cum laude, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Raman’s practice has involved all aspects of IP, with an emphasis on trademark and trade dress counseling, prosecution, and litigation.  He has been frequently published in legal and bar publications and CLE programs, and he has been an active member of INTA.  A registered patent attorney, Raman earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, and he holds a Bachelor of Science with honors in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas.  Raman has been listed for many years as a Texas Super Lawyer, a Best Lawyer in America, and in the International Who’s Who of Trademark Lawyers.
