Rudeina A. Baasiri, PhD, is Senior Science Advisor in MWM’s intellectual-property group. She has more than 20 years of experience as a patent agent registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She focuses her practice on advising on intellectual property strategy, patent prosecution and litigation support at the intersection of science, law and business.
Rudeina has deep expertise in U.S. and international patent prosecution, intellectual property due diligence, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis and portfolio management. She has successfully prosecuted patent applications across a wide range of technologies, including biotechnology, molecular genetics, immunology, oncology, microbiology, pharmaceuticals, oil-drilling technologies and agricultural sciences. Her work includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications, responding to USPTO and EPO office actions, and advising foreign counsel on EPO strategy, examination reports and oppositions.
She has managed IP portfolios for a major research institution, aligning patent strategies with business and licensing goals, and has provided strategic guidance on patent validity, infringement, reissues and opposition proceedings. Her FTO and due-diligence analyses have supported mergers, acquisitions, investments and research commercialization efforts often involving detailed search strategies, infringement-risk assessments and design-around solutions.
Rudeina earned her PhD in molecular biology from Texas A&M University and holds an MA in global affairs from Rice University, along with a certificate in science diplomacy from the Barcelona Institute of International Studies. She also earned an MS in plant pathology and a BS in agricultural sciences from the American University of Beirut. Fluent in English and Arabic and conversant in French and Spanish, she brings a global and interdisciplinary perspective to protecting and maximizing the value of innovation.
